VIC Case Study Series

We're proud to present our VIC Case Study Series event in Fitzroy, Melbourne.

After some networking, finger food and drinks, Dr Dean Samaras (Podiatric Surgeon), Dr Sam Harkin (Sport & Exercise Medicine Registrar/Podiatrist) and Larissa Pirlo (Sports Podiatrist) will each present an interesting case study followed by a panel discussion.

Speakers

Dr Dean Samaras

Dr Dean Samaras is a highly respected podiatric surgeon who practices at Kingsford Foot Clinic in Melbourne. He has completed fellowship training with the Australasian College of Podiatric Surgeons (ACPS) which included international preceptorships and courses in the UK and USA with renowned podiatric and orthopaedic surgeons.

His formal academic commitment as an Adjunct Lecturer at La Trobe University involves teaching undergraduate podiatric surgery, local anaesthesia and pharmacology. He is a Trustee of the Australian Podiatric Education and Research Foundation and has published results of clinical research in international surgical journals.

Dr Sam Harkin

Dr Sam Harkin is a Sport and Exercise Medicine Registrar with the Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians (ACSEP). Dr Harkin is passionate about helping his patients maintain an active lifestyle and pursue their sporting dreams.

He is currently team doctor for the Collingwood Football Club AFL and AFLW. He has a Diploma in Sports Medicine from the International Olympic Committee, and current research interests include the management of osteoarthritis of the knee, and clinical assessment of cardiorespiratory fitness.

Originally from Bendigo, Sam’s early career saw him qualify in Podiatry with honours and work as a podiatrist between 2009 and 2015. Sam graduated from the ANU in Medicine and Surgery in 2015.

He completed his residency at hospitals across Melbourne and country Victoria. Outside of work is a self-described mediocre sportsman, enjoying cricket, football of all codes, and cycling.

Larissa Pirlo

Larissa Pirlo is a Podiatrist with a strong passion in both the sports and paediatric space.

She is a passionate advocate for the podiatry profession and has served a board role for the Australian Podiatry Association (APodA – Victoria) and presently is on the SEPA CPD sub-committee.

Larissa has developed a keen interest in paediatric podiatry and as well as her work in private practice, works in the Child and Family team for Monash Health and also has a casual podiatry role in the Dermatology team at RCH looking after kids with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB).
